Trail of Bits
CEO
Dan Guido is the CEO and co-founder of Trail of Bits, a cybersecurity firm specializing in security research and software assurance for critical technology. Under his leadership since 2012, Trail of Bits has grown to over 140 elite engineers with deep expertise in cryptography, AI, and blockchain security. The firm was a finalist in DARPA’s Cyber Grand Challenge and the AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC), both competitions focused on automated security and AI-driven cyber defense. Dan has built a company culture recognized among NYC’s Best Places to Work. In 2023, iVerify, a mobile security tool the firm developed to detect spyware like NSO Group’s Pegasus, spun out as an independent company. Dan advises startups, government agencies, and policymakers on technology and cybersecurity. He serves on the boards of three startups and has contributed to cybersecurity policy work with the Council on Foreign Relations, RAND Corporation, and Harvard University. As the founder of Empire Hacking, he has connected over 1,800 NYC cybersecurity experts, and he created Algo VPN, a self-hosted VPN with 28,000+ stars on GitHub. Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from NYU Tandon, with a concentration in Information Assurance, and is enrolled in Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management program (OPM). In 2021, he was inducted into the Scholarship for Service (SFS) Hall of Fame by CISA. Early in his career, he served as the founding Hacker in Residence at NYU, where he helped build the university’s cybersecurity program and taught over 300 students. He recently established the Unconventional Innovator Scholarship at his alma mater, Mineola High School, to support students with a talent for creative technical problem-solving.
